The Program
Thanks for diving a little deeper into our website to learn about our program. The MTNTC training program was designed to provide a year round training platform for your time spent out of your Sport. In our time as Fitness professionals one thing we’ve found with all types of people and athletes is that GPP (General Physical Preparedness) training, and in turn the capacities gained from it, are beneficial in all sports and all aspects of daily life.
Our goal with the MTNTC was to create a robust training program that focuses a large part of your training on GPP while biasing the work performed towards your mountain sport (Mountain Biking or Trail Run/Hike). What that means is that the MTNTC training program focuses on a broad and well rounded training program with specific emphasis towards aspects important to your respective mountain sport such as shoulder stability and leg power, hip flexor strength, grip capacity, etc. while also focusing on the positions dominated in these sports that cause long term loss of function, i.e. tight hips, internally rotated shoulders, loss of thoracic extension, etc.
Having the opportunity to work with so many athletes and having used so many different training protocols through our time in the Fitness industry, one thing we do know, is that having the ability to perform basic fitness and strength capacities, such as doing a Pull-up, Jumping on a Box, or Carrying your bodyweight, provide robust and important aspects of fitness and general health that are beneficial to all sports and aspects of life. We’ve taken this idea of having a well rounded base of fitness and stacked on specific movements, themes, and ideas that are biased to the respective mountain sport.
Ultimately the goal of this program is first and foremost to help guide and give athletes who Mountain Bike or Trail Run/Hike and are interested in training in the gym an education of how and what to train. By following the MTNTC program you’ll find an increase in performance both in your sport, and in everyday life activities, you’ll find increased injury prevention, and in many cases you may find that working through a training program like this shores up many imbalances and deficiencies from issues like past falls/injuries as well as from time just spent participating in your sport.
The below are some key points regarding the MTNTC training program…
-

-
Robust training tracking that allows you to easily search and reference any given movement to see when it was performed last, what you lifted, how fast you went, etc.
-
An interactive training program where you can see other athletes weights, times, etc. when they submit their results for the day’s programming.
-
A built in message board for additional content and a place to connect with other athletes.
-
Our program is built around three main training modalities...
-
3 days/week of Strength Training (typically 45-60 minutes worth of warm-up and training time)
-
3 session/week Mixed Modal Conditioning (this can be combined with a Strength Day, with a Cyclical Day, or done as it's own session, generally a short time domain 10-20 minutes)
-
3 sessions/week Cyclical Conditioning (highly repetitive cardio, i.e. Run, Row, Bike, etc) training to be either done as it's own session or in conjunction with a Strength Session or a Mix Modal Conditioning Session (typically 30-60 minute time domain).
-
5 sessions/week Accessories for Life. This is a 20 minute accessory block that is geared towards the individual who wants as little to do with strength training as possible but knows they should do something. This is more pre-hab than anything, it can be combined (and will sometimes partially overlap) with any Strength Training or Conditioning sessions, it makes a good warm-up/body prep before going out to participate in sports, or makes a great quick little blood flow session on a day you're feeling run down or not super motivated.
